For 25 years, Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu was the Woman MP for Kiboga up to 2021 when Christine Kaaya Nakimwero unexpectedly ousted her riding on the Kyagulanyi NUP wave.
In the 25 years, there is a lot Nankabirwa (who currently supports Rhoda Nakintu to become the new area Woman MP) did for the people of Kiboga many great things including helping on the education of their children and connection to job and money-making opportunities within Uganda and abroad.
She also supported community causes by buying and giving out hundreds of huge saucepans to ease the burden on those who make weddings or lose loved ones and need to prepare food for a lot of people. The saucepans were given out in terms of villages and parishes to relieve those needing them the burden of having to hire.
And when she lost the MP Seat, some residents including fellow NRMs, who always envied her thinking the President was unfairly favoring her always, jubilated and some even organized vigils in trading centers purporting to be organizing for her a dignified send-off. Nankabirwa is a human being and such betrayal was naturally hurtful and very frustrating.
She was so disappointed and emotionally broken to the extent that she even reduced the frequency at which she would come around at her Kiboga residence at Kiwanguzi. She became incommunicado and even stopped financially standing with those who lose relatives. People would send her messages about dead relatives or even senior citizens and she would respond by advising them to carry their cross through the bereavement period.
Dr. Canon Ruth Nankabirwa began considering her husband’s home in Ndejje Bulemezi her real comforting place more than Kiboga-her birth place. Indeed, even recently her thanksgiving was held in Ndejje and not Kiboga. The President attended as did the Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu and many other political heavyweights from the government.
Then more recently, Nankabirwa’s assistants even began asking some of the community groups to surrender back the huge bi-saucepans the unappreciated Minister and their long serving MP had donated.
They are now being advised to rely on Christine Kaaya Nakimwero who they undeservingly voted, in 2026, to fill the vacuum on such charity and philanthropic undertakings. That having, eaten and shared with them for 25 years, now is the time for Canon Nankabirwa to work for herself, husband and children plus her real relatives.
Yet Canon Nankabirwa isn’t the first or the only one to turn her back on voters after such betrayal as Kyotera County’s Haruna Kasolo did the same too after the political embarrassment he endured during the 2021 elections.
