Robert Onega, a strong FDC leader in Nebbi Municipality, has been brutally arrested by area police moments after he won the court case against NRM’s Ashim Sulaiman. The two have been in court since last year’s elections which Onega narrowly lost to Ashim.
Lord Mayor the indomitable Erias Lukwago has been representing the petitioner. Justice Anthony Oyuko Ojok this Thursday morning delivered his ruling and agreed with Onega that the NRM strongman doesn’t qualify for the position of MP. The ground is that he lacks the basic academic qualifications to hold that position. The court ruling sparked spontaneous celebrations on the streets of Nebbi Municipality where Onega is revered like a rock star. It was in the midst of those celebrations that security brutally arrested Onega who Lukwago says is clearly a victim of political persecution by the ruling NRM party that is never prepared to accept defeat in whatever circumstances.
