An eagle’s egg does not remain in the nest forever, and for over two decades, the Equity Leaders Program (ELP) has been helping young, talented scholars spread their wings and soar to great heights.
Since its establishment in 1998, the program has been a pillar of academic excellence and leadership development, guiding thousands of promising minds toward success.
To date, ELP has supported over 23,825 university scholars in Africa, with 970 securing fully funded scholarships at some of the world’s most prestigious institutions.
This is not just an education initiative, but also a launchpad for Africa’s next generation of problem solvers, innovators, and transformational leaders. As the A river that forgets its source will soon dry up, and that’s why ELP scholars are molded not just for personal success but for community impact and continental progress.
The program is built on a four-pillar model designed to cultivate well-rounded leaders.
Scholars undergo mentorship, career coaching, and hands-on training to refine their leadership skills, because a sharpened axe cuts down the biggest tree. Exceptional students are guided to secure places in world-class universities, ensuring they gain international perspectives and skills. As the saying goes that “a traveler sees what he sees, but a wise man sees what he should.”
ELP encourages scholars to think outside the box, fostering innovation and problem-solving skills to address Africa’s most pressing challenges, because a bird does not change its feathers because the weather is bad.
Scholars are empowered to give back, mentoring the next generation and contributing to socio-economic development, because the footprints of a great leader are found in the hearts of the people.
With a presence in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and the DRC, the Equity Leaders Program has become an unstoppable force in shaping Africa’s future. Through paid internships, elite university placements, and lifelong mentorship, the program nurtures scholars who later emerge as leaders in finance, healthcare, technology, policy-making, and entrepreneurship.
For Equity Bank, investing in education is not just a responsibility, but a vision for a transformed Africa.
With every scholar who walks through the doors of ELP, the bank reaffirms its unwavering commitment to empowering young minds and igniting the flames of leadership, innovation, and progress.
After all, a tree that bears good fruit does not stand alone, it is rooted in strong soil.” (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
