Buliisa MP Stephen Birahwa Mukitale, renowned for his keenness on economic/financial issues, has urged BoU top bosses to emulate KCCA’s Jennifer Musisi and resign from their jobs to serve the broader economic interest of Uganda. Mukitale says the myth of a highly efficient regulator BoU had created over the years is now no more and adds that the problem has largely been caused by the intrigue and infighting among the top echelons at BoU. Mukitale says where things have reached, he even doubts the credibility of the commercial bank rating reports released by the BoU. He says the integrity of BoU is very paramount and once it’s eroded, there is no winner. He says there is urgent need for an internationally-commissioned forensic audit into the conduct of business at BoU because he believes alot has gone wrong there. He was speaking on Friday Radio One’s Spectrum extra program along with city lawyer Nicholas Opio who said whereas Mutebile & co maynot be angels, it would be imprudent for Mukitale to overlook the general institutional decay and collapse in Uganda which is a result of the bad politics orchestrated by President Museveni’s leadership. The only area on which Opio agreed with Mukitale was the fact that Mutebile & team had overstayed at BoU and the best the appointing authority can do is to get rid of all of them for a new team to take over. Opio also said the visciousness with which the IGG Irene Mulyagonja’s teams are pursuing BoU officials as regards their wealth declarations is proof that Museveni has given up on Mutebile and team and is only waiting for the opportune moment to strike and get him out at a time when the public clearly sees they had outlived their usefulness.
