During the recently ended two day national conference on traditional & cultural leaders held at Kampala’s Imperial Royale Hotel, the Kumam King (aka Ateker Ma Kumam), claiming to speak on behalf of fellow Kings present, showered State Minister for Culture Dr. Peace Mutuuzo with praises and wondered why the President wasn’t elevating her to the position of full Minister for the entire Gender docket.
The old man had been signaled by Mutuuzo to give a vote of thanks as day one was being closed. Mutuuzo said the old man she was calling upon deserved to speak last because he is full of what she called “elderly wisdom.”
Reflecting on how well she had been treating them so far as the Minister directly charged with their docket, the Kumam King said: “You have always treated us so well better than anyone else and you are enough for our issues, which is why we implore the President to make you the full Minister at Gender.”
The rest of the traditional and cultural leaders (including a representative from Buganda Kingdom) unanimously clapped and made it clear they are seconding what was being said about Dr. Peace Mutuuzo.
This flattery frightened, as opposed to enchanting, Peace Mutuuzo who used her microphone as the session moderator to immediately call for caution.
“I’m not comfortable being praised and portrayed in such a way because I might get into problems and get misunderstood. My senior Minister might think that I’m scheming to take her job, which isn’t the case. As of now, I’m the State Minister and I’m very comfortable with what I have,” she disclaimed promoting the Kumam King to switch into praising her boss Gen YK Museveni.
