A concerned citizen, Bashir Khamis, has written to Democratic Party Uganda President, Norbert Mao, expressing concerns over allegations that Mao is attempting to prevent Hon. Richard Sebamala from contesting for the position of DP President General.
According to Khamis, Mao and his team claim that Sebamala has not been an active member of the party for 10 years, citing the party’s constitution and regulations as justification. However, Khamis argues that Sebamala has been sponsoring party activities for over 15 years, with witnesses ready to testify to this fact.
Khamis emphasizes that Sebamala’s commitment and dedication to the party align with the principles of active membership, which include regular participation, leadership roles, financial support, community involvement, and compliance with party rules. Various court cases have established that an active member must demonstrate regular participation, comply with membership requirements, be in good standing, and show substantial participation in party activities.
Khamis urges Mao to focus on preparing for a fair and competitive election, rather than attempting to disqualify Sebamala on technicalities. “The Democratic Party Uganda deserves a leadership contest that is free from manipulation and intimidation,” Khamis writes.
The concerned citizen reminds Mao that the party should not be leveraged for personal gain, including ministerial positions. As a leader, Mao has a responsibility to uphold the integrity and values of the party.
Khamis hopes that Mao will take these concerns seriously and allow Sebamala to contest for the position of DP President General.(For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
