In a sharply worded statement released Saturday morning, on X (formerly Twitter) Mr. Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu has pushed back against reports linking him to the prosecution side in the ongoing Kanyanya Court case against 21 NUP supporters, dismissing the claim as “malicious” and politically motivated.
The NUP Head of International Relations says he has no connection whatsoever to the prosecution in the Criminal Case where several party members, including Deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro and Party President Robert Kyagulanyi’s bodyguard, Edward Ssebuwufu (Eddie Mutwe) are facing charges over alleged unlawful military drilling.
Nyanzi, also elder brother of Kyagulanyi insists the attempt to present him as a prosecution witness is not only false but deliberately engineered to distort his position and create confusion within the opposition camp, saying his attention has been drawn to malicious claims by state prosecutors that he’s one of their witnesses, assertions he firmly rejected.
The former Kawempe South MP aspirant further clarified that he has never recorded any statement with any investigative authority regarding the case.
“I have never recorded any statement before any authority regarding this matter,” Nyanzi added, arguing that the alleged inclusion of his name is part of a broader strategy aimed at weakening internal cohesion within NUP, especially at a time when several of its members are already before court.
According to him, the move appears intended to cause disharmony, mistrust and break cohesion within Kavule, rather than advance any genuine prosecutorial interest.
He also referenced his past encounters with security agencies, including an abduction and torture under similar accusations, saying such experiences make it illogical for him to be associated with the prosecution in any form.
While acknowledging the court’s authority to compel witnesses, Nyanzi warned that such powers must not be misused in politically sensitive matters.
Nyanzi also escalated his criticism of the entire case, describing the proceedings at Kanyanya Court as a charade of trial, saying the state should swallow its pride and withdraw the charges against all the accused.
“It should do the only right thing, withdraw the charges and set them free,” he said.
In the same statement, he maintained that the 21 NUP supporters are being prosecuted without credible evidence and insists the case is part of a wider pattern of political persecution against opposition figures.
