There was anxiety in Bulange Mengo this Saturday morning when a small group of about 10 people calling themselves supporters of Bobi Wine attempted to provocatively embarrass Dr. Kizza Besigye. The veteran opposition leader was emerging out of the studios of 89.2fm where he had appeared on Med Nsereko’s Parliament Yaffe program. On seeing Besigye move towards his car, the rowdy group surged towards him as they chanted “twagala Bobi nga sente.” This loosely translates to mean “we like Bobi Wine like money.” At the same time another larger group of FDC supporters led by Rubaga Deputy Mayor Asuman Ntale, emerged from the opposite direction and neutralized Besigye attackers. To Besigye supporters, this attempt on their leader was reminiscent of a nearly similar invasion Besigye endured in Arua August last year when Bobi’s supporters strayed into his own rally. Besigye, who was accompanied by city lawyer Yusuf Nsibambi, had appeared on the CBS show which his archrival Dr. Abed Bwanika has for years been using to demonize him politically by urging listeners to shun him because he is not a Muganda. This partly explains why the Asuman Ntale group members are now saying the young men that provoked Besigye in the parking might have been working in the interests of Bwanika and other members of his group who like calling themselves the High Command of People Power.

WHAT BESIGYE SAID
During the two-hour talk show, Besigye said many things including explaining why he has continued to contest against Museveni. He explained that his 2016 candidature was meant to neutralize a grand political plan President Museveni had to re-introduce the Movement system in order to kill off opposition politics in this country. He said there was a plan to which ex-Premier Amama Mbabazi was privy that would result into government of national unity (between Museveni and the second strongest candidate in that election). Besigye said he decided to contest in order to frustrate that plan which he said wasn’t going to be beneficial to the country. He said he had many meetings with Mbabazi as they discussed the TDA strategy and in all these discussions he saw a lot of ambiguity in what Mbabazi was planning to do in order to overcome Museveni with his entire NRM machinery. Besigye who never attacked Bobi Wine anywhere also explained why he won’t be giving up the struggle for regime change any time soon. For comments, call or text us on 0752510225.
