This Thursday, it has been confirmed during the CBS evening political panel that President Museveni intended to fire then IGP Gen Kale Kayihura and replace him with AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
Semujju Nganda, one of the Thursday panelists, revealed that as Internal Affairs Minister Gen Aronda Nyakayirima (now deceased) was at some point prompted by State House to write to Gen Museveni recommending Kaweesi for the job of next IGP after Kayihura.
That the two Museveni and Aronda had met prior for secret talks, a session during which the former indicated his readiness to have Kayihura out-and signalled to Aronda that his choice of successor was either Kaweesi or AIGP John Ndungutse.
“Because he was the Internal Affairs Minister, Aronda was directed by Museveni to write to him recommending the two [Kaweesi & Ndungutse] so that, as CiC and President, he chooses one but I can’t believe that this is the same once very powerful [AIGP] John Ndungutse who I saw being kicked and rolled in the mud by mere corporals in Kanungu,” Semujju Nganda said.
Having retired from Uganda Police Force, Ndungutse took to Police seeking to become the NRM flag bearer for Kinkizi West MP seat. When chaos erupted, Ndungutse was molested and publicly dehumanized by a group of junior Police and army officers.
The other panel members (including Med Nsereko, MPs Richard Lumu, Joyce Bagala & NRM’s Brandon Kintu) had no reason to dispute what Semujju was saying because his investigative capabilities to possess such state secrets and information are legendary and well known, having been an effective investigative journalist during his earlier years.
Semujju Nganda said all this in a bid to demonstrate the extent to which people who were once powerful and mighty have since become demystified in Museveni’s Uganda. He wondered how Ndungutse who once held so much powers in the Ugandan Police could be molested on camera like that, moreover in broad day light, like chicken thief.
Semujju also made reference to Gen Elly Kayanja who days earlier had given a media interview to a Kampala media platform, during which he seemed powerless and merely crying and lamenting. He also reflected on someone having guts to slap Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and proceeding to walk away with it without being apprehended.
“What all this shows is that, unless we all become fighters and fight for our freedoms to have a functional country as Besigye has always been telling us, no one is going to ever be safe and immune to torture and dehumanising treatment apart from Museveni and his son,” said Semujju Nganda.
