In a Saturday media interview with a Metro fm journalist, Captain Francis Babu, whose wife Margaret Zziwa desired to carry the NRM flag for Nakawa West, disputed the circumstances under which former RCC Anderson Burora was declared winner.
He claimed there was a syndicate and conspiracy against Margaret Zziwa who was resented by some powerful decision makers in the ruling party for being intelligent, senior and independent-minded. He claimed that Burora doesn’t belong to Nakawa and has no roots there except that he is being imposed by people who are simply uncomfortable with Margaret Zziwa’s credentials.
The former Minister and Kampala Central MP further claimed that an order was issued for Nakawa West results to be tabulated and declared last so as to buy time to manipulate and alter Margaret Zziwa’s win in favour of Burora. He claimed that those who aided Burora were so arrogant to the extent that they kept saying “what will they do?”
He said there is an audio of some big person who was recorded conspiring against Margaret Zziwa while detailing the rigging plan to falsify the Nakawa West results. That some very powerful person rang the NRM Party’s EC officials explicitly directing them to ensure Burora is declared winner even when he doesn’t have organic support in the area, because he doesn’t have roots there. Babu claimed that someone determined to block Margaret Zziwa, specifically rented a small house for Burora to be able to reside in Nakawa. He wondered what Margaret Zziwa did to attract so much hate and conspiracy.
In order to demonstrate the extent to which Burora is unpopular in Nakawa, Babu claimed that on the day he was declared and announced winner, the former RCC was escorted back home by the military. Being among those who greatly supported the cause behind the NRA war in the hope that things would permanently get better in the way elections are organized in Uganda, Babu said he wonders whether those acting with impunity and orchestrating vote rigging, wile despising others, even know why President Museveni and other fighters sacrificed to be in the bush fighting for a better-governed country for five years.
He also complained about creeping impunity inside NRM and the role of money in the party’s internal elections. He feared this would gradually push people towards concluding that NRM is exclusively a party of the rich, and not the poor peasants’ anymore. He made his point with the usual forcefulness and clarity of words.
