Buganda caucus chairman Jackson Muyanja Senyonga has been ousted in a bloodless coup that has been occasioned on him this morning by NRM MPs who are currently attending their 8 days’ retreat at Kyankwanzi. According to NRM Senior Communications Manager Rodgers Mulindwa, the anti-Senyonga coup has resulted into Kabula county long-serving MP James Kakooza become the new caucus chief. Mulindwa is uncomfortable revealing reasons for the coup but it’s on record that Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa has for some time been hostile to Senyonga whose December 2017 decision to vote against the lifting of age limits left party chairman YK Museveni a very angry man. Since that time Senyonga (who was duly elected at the start of the 10th Parliament) has been leading with difficulties to the extent that it hasn’t been easy for him to call caucus meetings because of the active sabotage by the NRM lobby that numerically dominates the caucus. According to Mulindwa the other Kyankwanzi coup products that will be part of the Kakooza executive committee include Syda Bbumba (Vice Chair), Kasozi Muyomba (General Secretary), Muyanja Mbabali (Treasurer), Simeo Nsubuga (Publicity Secretary) and Dr. Michael Bukenya (Committee Member). To ensure that the new leadership is sufficiently funded (unlike Senyonga’s leadership that was poverty-stricken), moneybags Sam Kutesa has made the new patron for Buganda caucus with equally wealthy Ruth Nankabirwa serving as ex-official. Speaking with reckless abandon as ever, Simeo Nsubuga has started on his new job with enthusiasm by calling on the rest of the members who were not part of the coup to immediately accept the new status quo and begin submitting to the authority of the new executive. One of the big arguments that are being made at Kyankwanzi to justify the coup is the fact that Senyonga’s hostility to the President was making it hard for the generous old man from Rwakitura to financially support the projects initiated by the Buganda caucus leadership. We unsuccessfully tried to speak to Muyanja Senyonga for his immediate response but he was unreachable as the assistant who took his calls kept telling us “Honorable is very devastated by the news from Kyankwanzi and can’t speak to anybody right now because he is busy praying while listening to Judith Babirye’s Nzijukira [Remember me oh God].” For comments, call, text or whatsapp us on 0703164755.
