Outspokhen media and political analyst Tamale Mirundi says tomorrow Boxing Day (26th December) he has nowhere else to be but Busabala One Love Beach for Bobi Wine’s Kyarenga concert. Appearing on his weekly NBS TV show on Xmas day today, Mirundi said he had already rung and spoken to Mr. Wine assuring him of his support for the Wednesday concert. Mirundi said: “By the way I like dancing when I’m happy and it’s a day to be happy. I told Mr. Kyarenga (meaning Bobi) in our phone conversation yesterday (Monday) that I will be coming onto the stage to dance with him.” Mirundi said he was doing this to ensure Mr. Wine and his supporters don’t feel that they have been sidelined by people in government. He said such engagement is better than using teargas to disrupt Bobi’s concerts like has happened in Jinja before. “He has been treated by my boss the President as if he is an outlaw yet we need him because he is a good man with good ideas. The other day they had IPOD in Munyonyo and he didn’t feature anywhere yet he is a very important player in Uganda’s politics today. He has many supporters among the young people and we must reach out and engage with them to have our own version of IPOD at our level because we live in the same city and face similar problems as people,” Mirundi said. He added he wasn’t bothered with the President’s video recorded message calling on people to massively attend Bebe Cool’s Kiwatule Concert. Instead he said it was not good strategy for the President to openly mobilize for Bebe Cool because his opponents can use that to humiliate him by ensuring Kiwatule is empty yet Kyarenga in Busabala is full on Boxing Day. He said in music, pro-change musicians like Mr. Wine appeal to more people than Bebe Cool who sings to preserve and defend the status quo.
