Perhaps because he is either a junior legislator or merely too timid, the bleeching Busujju County MP David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga on Saturday badly failed to effectively stand up to Abed Bwanika’s chauvinism and disinformation during a political debate on Kabaka’s CBS radio.
The duo was being hosted along with NRM’s Kasule Ssebunya by Med Nsereko. Bwanika said many terrible things against Bobi Wine and NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya who ended up being defended and rescued by a group of callers who were led by Makolo Kavuma.
Abed Bwanika went as far as disputing Kyagulanyi’s loyalty to and love for the Kabaka, a thing Kalwanga was unable to effectively counter. Bwanika asserted that the title Omubanda wa Kabaka was meant to dupe the unsophisticated NUP foot soldiers but in actual sense, the NUP President has no good intentions for the Kabaka and Buganda throne.
“The moment people have to come here to defend me that Abed Bwanika loves the Kabaka, just know the truth is that I don’t love him,” Bwanika said reffering to Kalwanga’s unsuccessful efforts to defend Bobi Wine on that as opposed to allowing the listeners to decide on their own.
Bwanika also referred to Mr. Wine’s insistence to front his blue-eyed boys who he claimed have little regard for the King (Katana, Rubongoya, Mufumbiro & Nubian Li) while fronting candidates against incumbent NUP MPs who are loyal to Buganda, as all indicative of a Principal who doesn’t wish the Kabaka and Buganda Kingdom well.
He added that failure to respect fallen MP Mohammed Ssegirinya’s body and his mother’s wish to mourn and send off her son the way she wished doesn’t portray Bobi Wine as someone who respects Buganda Kingdom and it’s bereavement period-related norms.
He added that the disrespect with which the former Kabaka Minister Oweek Medard Segona was treated a few days ago when he turned up at the Kavule NUP headquarters proved the contempt with which Mr. Wine treats Buganda Kingdom.
Segona had gone to attend a NUP MPs’ meeting at which Bwanika says he was clearly unexpected and unwanted. Bwanika deduced that all this proves that there is no way the Mpuuga group can ever reconcile with Mr. Wine. He suspected Segona was in targeted and humiliated by the Kavule mobs because of his refusal to publicly attack Mpuuga, after his fallout with Kavule.
Bwanika also referred to two NUP MPs from Mpigi district namely Hillary Kiyaga Mazongoto and Woman MP Teddy Nambooze against whom he claimed that Mr. Wine had personally fronted other candidates for 2026.
He also demonstrated how NUP will never capture political power because deliberately the party doesn’t have credible grassroot structures; adding that what exists fof example in Busujju County are just supporters of the area MP as an individual and Mr. Kalwanga was unable to effectively counter him on that too. All these assertions were never contradicted by Kalwanga who ordinarily was here to amplify the Kavule views.
Mr. Kalwanga (who has been MP since 2016) was also tasked by the clearly hostile moderator to illustrate what NUP had done since 2021 to meaningfully work towards weakening Gen Museveni and complicate his 2026 reelection and he couldn’t articulate anything intelligible.
The moderator accused NUP of failing to motivate their supporters by demonstrably illustrating to them there are better chances in 2026 to overcome Gen Museveni in the ballot box than was the case in 2021.
Abed Bwanika also portrayed Bobi Wine as a very vindictive and ungrateful politician and listed some of the politicians he said he had used and dumped in his first five years of opposition leadership. Those Bwanika says the Principal betrayed and threw under the bus include Sam Walter Lubega Mukaku, Gen Moses Bigirwa and Asuman Basalirwa.
He claimed that these are the unsung heroes who enabled the defeat of Gen Museveni in 10 out of Busoga’s 12 districts-and not Mr. Wine. That Mr. Wine only reciprocated the trio’s hard work by unleashing foot soldiers to character assasinate them on social media. Kalwanga was still in the studio but was unable to effectively counter Bwanika on all these even when the callers were very supportive and hostile to Bwanika.
Bwanika also controversially claimed that Buganda these days has the worst quality of MPs all because of the Kyagulanyi effect and the political contamination he claimed his NUP brand of politics had caused.
That the region in 2021 produced a significant number of MPs who can’t construct correct english sentences “because they campaigned and cracked a lot of jokes in Luganda hence their inability to speak while in Parliament,” Bwanika controversially asserted while making it clear that the situation can only worsen for as long as Kyagulanyi remains a kingmaker in 2026.
Kalwanga’s only way of countering this was to say that voters in Buganda are better off having such poor quality MPs than good english speakers like Abed Bwanika and Mathias Mpuuga who are mere moles and 5th columnists planted by Gen Museveni to undermine and fracture the opposition from within.
Upon reflecting on such a poor job Kalwanga was doing (namely failing to effectively defend Kavule), the moderator Med Nsereko and Kasule Sebunya of NRM towards the end of the program resorted to defending Bobi Wine and Rubongoya abit by urging Bwanika to stop demonizing the NUP SG since the man from Kanyaryeru wasn’t present to defend himself.
Bwanika went as far as demanding to know from Kalwanga why Katana, Mufumbiro, Nubian Li and Rubongoya can’t win in their home areas if it’s indeed true that the NUP flag or card is sufficient for one to win an MP Seat anywhere in Uganda.
This is another Bwanika submission on which Mr. Kalwanga was found wanting as he didn’t have much to say to push back against what the man from Kimanya-Kabonera had just said; fatally bruising the NUP reputation while demystifying the impact of its card or flag.
