If you didn’t why immediately after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections had been concluded Aisha Lubega stepped forward to hold forte as acting Chairperson for the Electoral Commission, just read this. The big man himself, Justice Simon Byabakama (renowned for being thick-skinned) hasn’t been well at all.
Mulengera News can credibly report that days after proclaiming the final results indicating Gen Museveni was bouncing back as the President of our beautiful republic, Justice Byabakama began feeling unwell. “He was weak and sleepy. When he didn’t get well after certain medical interventions, it was decided that he tests for COVID19 and the results returned positive. It didn’t surprise many because many other EC staffers had previously tested positive,” says one of the very reliable sources through whom we corroborated this story. “It was a serious attack because he didn’t recover from the ICU condition for many more days than had originally been expected.”
That is how Byabakama, who had previously remained very paranoid about the demonizing attacks NUP politicians kept directing at him personally and even considered pursuing some of them for civil defamation, found himself involuntarily not being able to keep in office, paving way for his Vice Aisha Lubega.
After being indisposed at his Kyambogo residence for several days, Byabakama began to gradually regain his energy before subsequently testing negative implying he was finally COVID19-free. “He is finally back to office but he clearly hasn’t yet fully recovered from the very traumatizing COVID experience. He also remains angry at the NUP politicians who have continued demonizing him through media platforms while making much unsubstantiated claims against him. He was ready and looked forward to defending himself under the Kyagulanyi presidential petition whose withdrawal he now regrets. That is why he has refused ruling out dragging some individual NUP politicians to court for defamation,” says a family source close to Justice Simon Byabakama. Some think that the widespread COVID19 infection cases among EC headquarter officials has been the inevitable result of the activity-packed electoral period the electoral body has just concluded.
