The Anglican Church’s Midwestern cluster is seeking more funds and support to organise Martyr’s Day celebrations held annually on June 3. The cluster of six Greater Ruwenzori dioceses which include Ruwenzori, South Ruwenzori, East Ruwenzori, West Rwenzori, Bunyoro-Kitara and Masindi-Kitara was chosen by the House of Bishops to organise the 2024 Martyrs Day at the Uganda Martyrs Anglican site in Namugongo.
Rt. Rev Reuben Kisembo the Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese and chairperson on the Midwestern cluster says that they have not raised even 20 per cent of the 2.1 billion Shillings needed to organize the celebration. However, the Bishop did not reveal the amount they have collected so far.
On Friday, Bishop Kisembo received a contribution of 15 million Shillings from MTN Uganda towards Martyrs Day activities. The contribution was presented by MTN Uganda’s Regional Manager for MTN MOMO Western Uganda, Allan Makanga at a function held at the Ruwenzori Diocese headquarters in Fort Portal.
In an earlier interview with URN, Bishop Kisembo noted that they anticipate receiving 471 Million Shillings from various sources, including companies, individuals, and organizations, 200 million Shillings from the six dioceses and 1.5 billion Shillings from the central government.
Bishop Kisembo however called for more support from well-wishers to enable them to successfully organize the event. This year’s Martyr’s Day will be celebrated under the theme,” Focusing on conforming to the truth of God’s word. Romans 12: 1-2.”-URN (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [whatsapp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
