Julius Kakeeto, a well-polished banking executive that within a short time turned Orient Bank to profitability, is the new Managing Director for PostBank Uganda (PBU). Reliable sources at Bank of Uganda (central bank makes final approval for such high-level banking industry appointments) have exclusively disclosed to Mulengera News that Kakeeto is set to begin work October this very year.

He will be replacing long-serving MD Stephen Mukweli whose departure, months ago, attracted many seasoned business executives to respond to a public advert the governing board put out in the media. Many applied, including corporate leaders that continue to run large finance institutions, and the recruitment process was very rigorous implying by the time he was zeroed on as the most suitable for job, Kakeeto had to be confirmed to have the very best credentials for the job.

Western-educated Kakeeto previously worked with Citibank before becoming MD Orient Bank which he took over at a time of uncertainty when previous shareholders had messed up the bank but being a team builder with rare new business acquisition skills, he managed to turn round things in such a short time. There is optimism that with him in the driver’s seat, the process to take PBU to the next level in the banking industry will move more expeditiously. At Orient, the Asian owners and shareholders are no doubt going to miss Kakeeto’s experience and corporate leadership. More later.
