BOBI’S BROTHER: WE’RE NOT SCARED OF MAO

Fred Nyanzi Sentamu (aka Chairman), who is politically the most sophisticated figure in the Sentamu family, has defiantly reacted to the announcement by DP leader Norbert Mao that he will be a candidate against YK Museveni in 2021. In an interview with Mulengera news, Nyanzi said that as People Power (backing Bobi Wine) they are not going to be cowed by any surprises because they have always prepared for the worst while hoping for the best. “Sometimes, we human beings crave for publicity and attention which is normal and okay but most importantly Mao is a leader of a political party meaning he is expected to be ambitious for presidency. We are yet to speak to him but it’s possible he was overcome by emotions because of the way Hon Kivumbi attacked him on TV,” Nyanzi said. “It’s our wish that he backs Bobi but even if he doesn’t we shall carry on. We can’t be threatened by his candidature as People Power because that won’t be the first time he contests for presidency. He contested before and how he ended is a public record for everybody to judge. We are confident of our support and I predict that on being drowned into the sea of our supporters, even after nominations Hon Mao will still come and join our candidate.” Nyanzi explained that whereas they are relentless talking to all change-seeking forces, they are simultaneously preparing to compete with whoever will insist on being a candidate in 2021. “We are hopeful that through engagement, Hon Mao can see our point and leave the thing for Kyagulanyi and doesn’t get nominated to compete with us. But should that fail, we are more than prepared to meet him in the field when the campaigns begin,” said Nyanzi who also took off time to justify his decision to compete with Mohammed Nsereko for the position of Kampala Central MP.

TACKLES NSEREKO

Nyanzi said nobody should get alarmed or find it strange that he is having his eyes on the Central Division. “We are operating on a principle that leaders should ideally serve for 10 years and move on to a bigger challenge. It’s our conviction that after 10 years, leaders should give way for others to also serve and nurture their leadership credentials. We don’t believe in people owning positions because these are merely public offices. In any case it’s healthy to have competition in politics.” Nyanzi explained that it’s improper for anybody to perceive him as fighting Nsereko as if the office of Kampala Central MP is his personal inheritance. He said he has a lot of history in the struggle to politically make Uganda better the very reason his 2021 MP ambition shouldn’t be misunderstood. Without directly disclosing names, Nyanzi said that some people will as a matter of course have to be challenged by People Power candidates because of their ambivalence that makes it hard for voters to precisely know where they stand. “Such leaders have to be overcome and the time is now because today you hear he/she is in State House and during day the same leader goes around claiming to be an opposition diehard,” asserted Nyanzi who also ruled out the possibility of clashing with his own brother Eddie Yawe who he said belongs to Kira Municipality and not Kampala Central anymore.
