The Insurance Industry just concluded its sixth edition of the annual sports gala last Saturday at Namboole Stadium. The event that was organized by the Insurance Regulatory Authority and the Insurance Institute of Uganda and broadcasted live on Kwese free sports TV attracted 51 companies including a bank, Diamond Trust bank.
Britam emerged the overall winner of this year’s gala followed by Clarkson Insurance Brokers in second place and ICEA in the third position.
UAP Old Mutual group Uganda, the 2 time back to back 2017 defending champions were in the eighth position with exceptional performance in badminton, a game in which they emerged second with 40points after Clarkson that scored 50points. The former champions, UAP Old Mutual also emerged third and fourth in basketball and volleyball respectively. The UAP Old mutual team which has already commenced preparations for next year promised to make an incomparable comeback in 2019 to snatch back the title.
Overall, soccer had the biggest participation and toughest competition with 33 organisations out of the 51 fielding teams which battled for points with the winner being Clarkson Insurance Brokers scoring 80 points.
The Chief Executive officer of the Insurance Regulatory Authority Alhajji Kadunabi Lubega Ibrahim was the day’s guest of honour. He thanked the organisations for their participation and encouraged them to keep up with the spirit since the gala is a key tool for networking and unity in the insurance industry.
Britam upon receiving the trophy for the overall champions 2018 jubilated till the event ended.
