Journalists Demand Govt Answers on Missing Baba TV Reporter Eria Jengo as Security Council Set to Meet

By Aggrey Baba

The National Security Council is expected to meet this Tuesday to discuss concerns over missing persons, including Baba TV journalist Eria Jengo, who disappeared on September 10, 2026, after reportedly being taken away in an unmarked vehicle in Kampala.

Jengo was last seen around midday after leaving Baba TV’s offices in Ntinda to buy lunch. According to published reports, he was allegedly forced into an unmarked vehicle while returning to the newsroom. His whereabouts remain unknown.

ICT Minister Kasule Lumumba was on Tuesday put on the spot by journalists at the Media Centre in Kampala to explain Jengo’s whereabouts on behalf of the NRM government, as concerns over the reported disappearances continue to attract attention.

Lumumba said the meeting follows concerns raised by journalists during previous press briefings at the Media Centre in Kampala, as well as questions raised in Parliament.

Addressing journalists, Lumumba said she had personally followed up the matter with the Minister of Internal Affairs after an earlier briefing.

“I remember you put it to me last time I was here for a press briefing. After here, I also went and took it up with the Minister of Internal Affairs,” Lumumba said.

She added that government had been informed about the planned meeting and was awaiting its outcome before making a further statement.

“The Security Council is supposed to sit today. We were informed yesterday and we are waiting for the outcome,” she said.

Lumumba said the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, would communicate the outcome of the discussions to Parliament and the public.

“After the Security Council has had a discussion, the Minister of Internal Affairs will make a response in Parliament, and we will also bring him here to explain to the country the issues that have been discussed in the Security Council,” she said.

The minister did not identify the specific cases to be discussed or disclose what measures the council might consider.

The Security Council is chaired by President Yoweri Museveni. In his absence, Vice President Jessica Alupo is expected to chair it, followed by the Minister of Internal Affairs if both are unavailable.

The meeting comes amid continued calls for answers over reported disappearances, with the promised briefing expected to provide further details on the government’s response.
