Comrades, I congratulate you for the 64th re-independence anniversary. It is re-independence because prior to 1890, the great kingdoms of Buganda, Bunyoro, Tooro, Nkore, Busoga principalities and others were either independent states or societies.
So, on October 9th 1962, we regained what we had lost and since 1986, we have consolidated it.
The reason why October 9th was chosen in 1962 was because, Kabaka Muteesa l died on that day. He was the one who invited missionaries, by writing a letter to Queen Victoria of England that appeared in Daily Telegraph in 1875.
The scientific observation of national public holidays and occasions are not only healthy but economical.
I congratulated more of the people of Jinja and thanked them for having been peaceful so far, and should remain patriotic, loyal and obedient.
ON MINISTER BALAAM:
I also want to categorically make it clear that, the office of RDC Jinja district welcomed the ongoing operation by Hon. Balam Barugahara the Minister of Local Government and we are supportive of it.
It is on record that the first district Balam visited was Jinja where he ordered for recalling of the CAO and it was done with immediate effect.
He visited the district headquarters under administration at Kagoma and directed that construction should stop and that finishing commences, and that is what is going on.
So, if the Minister pays us another visit, we shall be happy with it. We also know the African saying: A leader’s visit is both a working visit and an operation (Ebemba tekyala etabaala butabaazi). We have to prepare.
As Jinja we don’t condone the corrupt. We have so far arrested the Town Clerk and three Council agents, we interdicted a SAS, and there are some cases where we have already written the IGG to investigate, among others.
