The GROW Project, in partnership with Pearl Bank, has equipped women entrepreneurs in Lira City and the wider Lango sub-region with financial literacy and digital financial skills aimed at improving business management and the effective use of financing.
The training, held on Thursday, September 24, brought together members of AROVA SACCO and beneficiaries of GROW loans under the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project.
The GROW Project is implemented by the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and is funded by the World Bank.
Participants were trained in financial management, with a focus on how to effectively utilise GROW financing to strengthen and expand their businesses.
The women were also introduced to Pearl Bank’s Wendi mobile wallet and trained on how to register for and use the platform to access digital financial services.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening women entrepreneurs’ ability to manage their finances while increasing their access to digital financial services.
Dr Denis Tukahikaho of the PSFU GROW Project, who attended the engagement as Chief Guest, encouraged beneficiaries to use the financing productively to grow their enterprises and improve household livelihoods.
Tukahikaho urged the beneficiaries to apply the financial management skills acquired during the training to ensure that the funds received translate into sustainable business growth.
The training also provided an opportunity for AROVA SACCO management and board members to appreciate the partners supporting the programme.
AROVA SACCO management commended PSFU, the World Bank and the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development for implementing the GROW Project, saying the programme is contributing to improved livelihoods among women, families and communities in the Lango sub-region.
The partnership with Pearl Bank adds a digital finance component to the financial literacy programme, giving beneficiaries practical knowledge on using mobile-based financial services.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts under the GROW Project to strengthen women-owned businesses through access to finance, business skills and other support needed to improve their productivity and livelihoods.
