After many years of being a leading fuel dealer, ex-Tororo Municipality MP Sanjay Tana has finally bowed out. We can reliably reveal that the flamboyant ex-MP of the Asian origin is no longer having any stake in Petrol Jinja Road opposite the Main Gate of Parliament. Sources close to him say that the wealthy businessman quit after a business rival he had always clashed with in the fuel business was elevated to the level of Uganda country manager for all fuelling stations trading under the brand name Petrol. “Sanjay Tana knew things were going to be very bad for him and wrote to the headquarters asking to quit. His wish was granted and a new management took over Petrol Jinja road. That was the end of story between him and Petrol Jinja road. The experience was so painful he even moved out of the other petrol station he had in Entebbe. He leased it to someone and got out completely fearing that the new country manager was going to make life hard and cripple him as a businessman,” said a long time business acquaintance to Sanjay. “He no longer sits at that Jinja road office and all NRM cadres and friendly journalists who have been flocking Petrol Jinja road for free fuel have left crestfallen.” These days Sanjay, who lives in his posh house in Kamwokya, operates his business office at a building near Kampala Casino and the other office is in Kamwokya near his residence. The would-be free time created as a result of getting out of the very bothersome fuel business (just ask Dr. KB to know how much supervision it requires) is what Sanjay Tana used to expand his MTN dealership whereby he acquired Zebra Telecom meaning he is now in charge of more Eastern Uganda townships including Mbale. He previously was in charge of only Tororo where he also has many other businesses including real estate. We rang Sanjay who confirmed bowing out of Petrol Jinja road but before he would divulge into details, an emergency came up and he advised us as follows: “My brother I suggest we speak tomorrow and I give you all the details because right now I’m in Mbale and there is something that has just come up that I must attend to.” We look forward to speak to him today Tuesday for more as per his own advice.
