Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) has strengthened its digital ties with Zambia, as both nations work to secure Africa’s online future. According to a post on Nyombi Thembo’s X page, the UCC Executive Director hosted Zambia’s ICT Minister, Hon. Felix Mutati, and his team to discuss cybersecurity, digital growth, and regional collaboration.
The discussion highlighted that as banking, defense, and public services increasingly go digital, the threats remain borderless, requiring coordinated defense strategies. Thembo explained that Uganda is tackling cybersecurity challenges with NITA-U leading national efforts and UCC coordinating communication security through the national Computer Emergency Response Team (UG-CERT).
The two sides also reviewed strategies to combat misinformation, raise public awareness, enforce digital laws, and ensure that young people can engage freely online. They shared perspectives on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and potential new entrants such as Starlink, emphasizing that national security, data sovereignty, and local oversight remain priorities even as connectivity expands.
The meeting underscored the importance of knowledge exchange between Uganda and Zambia, with both countries aiming to ensure that Africa’s digital transformation is secure and well-managed. Thembo noted that the collaboration is a step toward building a strong, safe, and digitally advanced Africa.
