January turned into a month of dry taps and tense mornings across several parts of the country as the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) battled a series of major water interruptions.
From the busy neighborhoods of Bulenga, Nateete, Busega, and Nansana to surrounding areas, residents were left stranded after a damaged DN300 transmission main forced an immediate shutdown. The sudden interruption disrupted homes, businesses, and daily routines as repair teams rushed to fix the broken line.
In the Nebbi service area, it was another tough moment after a technical fault crippled water production and supply schedules. For days, residents anxiously waited as engineers worked around the clock. Relief finally came when NWSC announced the fault had been resolved, restoring normal water flow to the town.
The crisis did not stop there. Residents of Mutungo, Butabika, Port Bell, and Kitintale woke up to shocking “no water” situations after an emergency fault struck along the Ggaba–Mutungo bulk water transmission main. Morning routines were thrown into confusion as households scrambled for alternative water sources.
In Rubaga Service Area, it was yet another blow. Water supply to parts of Kisenyi, Wakaliga, Nateete, Rubaga, Nakulabye, Sentema, Bulenga, Wakiso, Nansana, Bulaga, Namungoona, and Kyengera Town Council was shut off due to an emergency fault along Kayemba Road. The widespread outage left thousands affected.
Despite the repeated setbacks, NWSC teams moved swiftly to contain the damage. Repair works were carried out, faults were fixed, and supply lines were restored in phases across the affected regions.
January may have tested the patience of many residents, but by the end of the month, water was flowing again in most of the impacted areas, a sign of determined efforts to keep the taps running despite unexpected breakdowns.
As February begun, many had hope for a smoother month with steady water supply and fewer emergency repairs. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
