Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has pledged to prioritize the welfare of Ugandans if elected, criticizing the government over what he described as the displacement of rice growers and fishermen without providing alternative livelihoods.
While campaigning in Bugiri District on Tuesday, Mafabi expressed concern that many citizens are being denied their right to earn a living due to government policies. He said such actions undermine economic stability and worsen poverty in rural communities.
Mafabi traversed several areas in the district, including Nabukalu Sub-county, Busowa, Nankoma, Muterere Town Council and Bugiri Municipality, as part of his nationwide campaign ahead of the 2026 presidential elections.
Addressing rallies along the route, Mafabi emphasized that Uganda has the capacity to deliver quality public services if governed responsibly. He pointed to poor governance and corruption as key obstacles to national development.
The FDC flag bearer highlighted his leadership experience and understanding of grassroots challenges, pledging accountable and people-centered governance. He outlined priority areas under his leadership, including improved infrastructure such as roads and electricity, better-equipped health facilities, and enhanced education services.
Mafabi also promised targeted support for vulnerable groups, proposing a monthly stipend of Shs60,000 for senior citizens aged 60 and above. He said the measure would help cushion elderly Ugandans from economic hardship.
Additionally, he pledged to intensify efforts to fight corruption, stimulate economic growth and increase household incomes across the country.
Mafabi concluded by calling on voters to support his bid in the January 15, 2026 presidential election, saying Uganda needs experienced leadership and a fresh perspective to drive meaningful change.
