The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is using social media to remind Ugandans why paying water bills is so important. Access to clean and safe water is a basic right, and NWSC works every day to make sure it reaches homes and businesses across the country.
Through its “Water for All” campaign, NWSC explains that timely payments are what keep taps flowing. In Kampala, water from Lake Victoria is treated at the Ggaba Water Treatment Plant.
While the raw water may look greenish, customer payments help fund the purification process that delivers clean and safe water to everyone.
Recent upgrades at Ggaba, like the Sludge Treatment Facility and Additional Clarifier Stream, have improved water quality and increased plant capacity. NWSC is also partnering with French firm Vinci to expand the water network and Katosi Water Treatment Plant, a €92.4 million project that will benefit 1.5 million people.
Under Managing Director, Dr. Silver Mugisha, paying water bills is now simple, convenient, and quick for customers. Customers can use direct debit or mobile money services through MTN and Airtel, making it possible to settle bills conveniently from anywhere. Timely payments help NWSC keep water flowing without interruptions, fund daily operations and maintenance, upgrade and expand infrastructure, extend services to new communities, and operate transparently and efficiently.
NWSC even uses social media like X to remind customers playfully: “For those avoiding bills, Mwagala tugoinge wa? meaning, “What do you want us to do?” Every bill paid is more than a payment; it is an investment in Uganda’s water security, ensuring clean, safe water reaches everyone today and in the future.
