December has been a month of water challenges across Uganda, but the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has shown remarkable effort in keeping the public informed through its X handle (@NWSC). From Gulu to Nebbi, residents have relied on NWSC’s timely posts to navigate multiple water supply interruptions.
The month began with disruptions in Gulu City and surrounding areas due to power outages. NWSC quickly alerted residents that water would be temporarily sourced from the Oyitino plant and urged careful usage. Soon after, Mityana faced similar interruptions, with NWSC communicating the issue and assuring that repair teams were working hard to restore supply.
By mid-December, Masaka City experienced relief when power was restored to the water works, allowing normal supply to resume to Masaka, Villa Maria, Kidda, and other surrounding areas. NWSC used X to praise residents’ patience while providing real-time updates on restoration progress.
Other regions were also affected. Tororo, Lira, Dokolo, Amach, and Kigo experienced water shortages caused by emergency works or power challenges. Each time, NWSC’s X posts explained the cause, the expected resolution time, and reminded residents to use water sparingly. These communications helped households plan and adapt during periods of limited water supply.
The latest alert focused on Nebbi, where NWSC announced a planned interruption on 22nd December to upgrade the water system. The post provided the expected completion time and explained the benefits of improved water reliability, showing that the corporation is not only addressing immediate challenges but also working toward long-term solutions.
Even along Entebbe Road, towns like Entebbe Town, Katabi, and Kisubi were kept informed about power-related interruptions affecting water supply. NWSC consistently communicated updates, timelines, and safety guidance to ensure residents understood the situation and how to cope.
Throughout December, NWSC has turned its X handle into a critical platform for public awareness. The corporation’s frequent updates, clear explanations, and guidance on water conservation have helped Ugandans manage the disruptions more effectively. While the water challenges remain, NWSC’s proactive communication has proven to be a vital lifeline, keeping citizens connected and prepared during a difficult month.
