Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has issued a stern warning to the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its supporters, signaling that any further attempts to disrupt his campaigns will be met with unwavering resistance.
Speaking at a press conference at Mountain Inn Hotel in Mbale, Mafabi vowed to take decisive action against those who attempt to sabotage his campaign, stressing that his team is prepared to defend itself from any attacks.
This warning comes in the wake of violent clashes yesterday between FDC and NUP supporters in Kachomo Town Council, Budaka District, where several individuals were injured.
The skirmish raised serious concerns about the safety of campaign activities in the region.
While Mafabi expressed leniency toward the attackers, who were apprehended by police, calling it their first offense and offering them a chance for reform, he made it clear that any future violence would not be tolerated.
“We will not hesitate to defend ourselves and our supporters,” Mafabi declared, adding that his party is fully capable of ensuring peace during the election period.
Mafabi also took the opportunity to call on NUP’s presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, to rein in his supporters and prevent further incidents.
“We urge Kyagulanyi to advise his followers to choose peaceful methods to express their views, as we are committed to running a campaign based on respect, not violence,” Mafabi stated.
Reiterating the FDC’s commitment to non-violent campaigning, Mafabi made it clear that while they value peace, they are ready to take necessary steps to protect their supporters and safeguard their campaigns.
“Any further attempts to disrupt our activities will only strengthen our resolve to defend our rights,” Mafabi warned. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
