The nine pupils admitted to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital after a classroom wall collapsed on them at Kibale Primary School in Isingiro district are now out of danger says Halson Kagure, the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital Public Relations Officer
The incident occurred during a heavy downpour yesterday afternoon when part of the building structure collapsed on the pupils prior to being rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for further management.
According to Halson Kagure, Public Relations Officer at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, the nine children, comprising 3 boys and 6 girls, were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Kagure revealed that four had head injuries and underwent CT scans, while others sustained fractures.
The hospital’s emergency response team worked tirelessly to stabilize the children, and they have since been transferred to the surgical ward for close monitoring.
“The children are now stable and out of danger,” Kagure assured parents. “We urge the school administration to exercise caution during heavy rains and strong winds”, Kagure said
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of school infrastructure, and the need to exercise vigilance during the rainy season.
Kibale Primary School, a private church-founded institution, will likely face questions about its building standards and emergency preparedness.
