Bobi Wine Nominated as Presidential Candidate, EC Pledges State Protection

By Mulengera Reporters

The NUP leadership has devised a strategy which they think will minimize confusion among voters and ensure that no one benefits from the Kyagulanyi wave without being a flag bearer for NUP.

Mulengera News understands that spokesperson Joel B Ssenyonyi has been tasked to ensure this is effectively communicated and is understood by all and sundry. In some cases, organizers of such rallies will have to use force and violence to pretend none-NUP flag bearers from bringing their squads or Gaali seeking to forcefully be visible at Kyagulanyi’s rallies.

Some Kavule strategists are fearful that such anticipated violence (of having to forcefully chase away such political opportunists) could culminate into bloodshed at Kyagulanyi’s rallies, create bad publicity for the candidate and subsequently justify crippling interference by the regime security agencies like police and the army under the guise of enforcing law and order.

Knowledgeable insiders say that this move of forcefully keeping such opportunists away was successfully tried and piloted during the Principal’s pioneering rally after nominations that was on Wednesday held at Natete where no none NUP politician was permitted chance to talk. They actually weren’t even invited and those who solicited for invitation and speaking slots were disregarded and advised to keep away.

“There are many leaders in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono for whom the door to become NUP members has been wide open for all these years yet they refused to join NUP because they despise the Principal. Those same leaders now think they can claim to be supporting him for President so that they get accepted by voters for MP and local government positions at the expense of our own flag bearers who have been fronted for those very positions,” says a Kavule insider adding that such political opportunists had reached out to Kavule asking for a role and speaking slot at the Natete rally only to be politely disregarded.

“The spokesperson recently messaged by saying that only NUP flag bearers will be part of our President’s campaign caravan but it seems many of those guys didn’t get the message well. They have become so unpopular and tagging on Bobi is the only way they can win reelection but we are saying why don’t you become a NUP member if you indeed like and believe in Bobi being currently the overall leader of the opposition?” What happened at Natete is how it’s going to be and no one except flag bearers will be permitted to share the platform at the President’s rally.”

This Kavule insider says that unless this arrangement is strictly enforced, confusion resulting from politicians opportunistically tagging themselves on Bobi is going to prevail and in the end cost NUP.

“Some of these independents and actors from other opposition parties are individually better candidates than NUP flag bearers and all they have to do is go telling voters we too are for Bobi Wine for Presidency and that will be enough to deflate our NUP candidates and result into defeat of our flag bearers. We saw it happen to Besigye when politicians were allowed to tag around him and going on to win at the expense of candidates from his FDC party. In our case it’s different. No one is going to be allowed to benefit from the Kyagulanyi wave at the expense of our flag bearers.”

In a message that seemed to be targeted at Katonga-based PFF and a little bit of DF, the NUP official added: “There was time to join NUP and become the natural flag bearers in their respective constituencies but many of them chose independent or belonging to other parties. No one is going to be showed mercy. They are free to print posters and add Bobi’s face on it because that one is hard to stop but those things of coming to our rallies to suffocate our flag bearers aren’t going to be tolerated.”
