Some of the NUP supporters in Nakawa East constituency, especially foot soldiers who were denied the chance to carry the party’s flag for Division and City Hall Councillors, have ganged up to celebrate the imprisonment of Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro, the very talkative Musoga boy who Bobi Wine is fronting for the area MP Seat.
Waiswa, who the state intends to keep locked up for a minimum of three years, had been designated to be taking over from senior legislator Eng Ronald Balimwezo who is running for Lord Mayorship. As part of his strategy in Nakawa, Waisswa decided to construct his own gaali (campaign caravan) and stuffed it with people he feels comfortable working with. He came up with his own list which he implored Kavule to give party tickets.
Many of these ended up getting the NUP ticket for the Councillorship positions and this has angered a lot of people who aspired for the NUP flag but were disregarded by Kavule. These are many and a great number of them were incumbents who are now faulting Waisswa for favouring people who aren’t popular enough to win for the party.
“He presented to Kavule a list of political failures who voters have been rejecting for more than 15 years. These include Willy Senkuba of Butabika who he has since made his campaign manager. On SDP ticket, he was rejected by voters in 2011 and 2016. Even in 2021, when Butabika was split into three councillor electoral areas, he stood and lost. It’s going to be even harder this time round when all these electoral areas have been merged into one electoral area,” said one of the jubilant NUP ticket rejects who are now celebrating Waiswa’s jail problems.
“His other darling is Ali Korire of Luzira who is part of Waiswa’s coalition of renowned political failures in Nakawa. He is of Luzira parish and has been losing elections to become councillor thrice in 2011, 2016 and 2021.”
The jubilant NUPians have since created a WhatsApp forum conveniently named “Keep Waiswa out of Nakawa” and it’s on this platform that all the anti-Mufumbiro jubilant written WhatsApp messages, audios and voice notes are being posted.
Many are wishing that Waiswa is released on good time to be able to be nominated so that those whose toes he has been stepping on within Nakawa can have the opportunity to dance on his proverbial political grave upon being defeated in the ballot box come 2026.
