Mitooma, Uganda — General Kahinda Otafiire, a senior leader in the National Resistance Movement (NRM), brought together supporters and local leaders in a unifying thanksgiving event that electrified the people of Mitooma. The function, held in Ruhinda County, doubled as both a political rally and a vibrant celebration of community, culture, and leadership.

But beyond the usual political agenda, one major talking point dominated the day and social media afterward: General Otafiire’s renewed energy, his visible joy, and the presence of his wife, Natukunda Loice, who many in the community now lovingly refer to as “our wife.”

Known for his serious and no-nonsense approach to politics, the General surprised many by dancing, laughing, and engaging freely with the crowd. The scene was far from the usual stiff political meet-up; it was a colourful show filled with performances by popular artists like Ray G, Gravity Omutujju, Peace Mbabazi, and the ever-vibrant MC Kachaina. Otafiire didn’t just give a speech—he danced, cheered, and connected with the people on a deeply personal level.

By his side throughout the event was Natukunda Loice, CEO of Elevate Her Uganda, an organization that supports youth and women empowerment. The couple’s public chemistry and lively presence didn’t go unnoticed.

“We’re in love with his energy,” said a resident from Nyakatoma village, smiling. “And now that we’ve seen him with his wife, we feel even more connected to him.”

One elderly woman from Kibingo added with pride, “That woman is not only Otafiire’s wife. She’s our wife too!”

Their appearance together sparked widespread admiration. Locals praised Natukunda not only for her elegance and style but also for the joy and warmth she brought to the function and the community at large.

Throughout the event, Gen. Otafiire emphasized unity among NRM supporters, calling on leaders and communities to put aside differences for the sake of national development. His message was clear: support President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM’s ongoing efforts. Yet his delivery was notably warm, vibrant, and more personal than usual.

“We are stronger when we stand together,” he told the crowd. “And that unity must begin here in Mitooma.”

The thanksgiving was not just about politics—it became a moment of bonding between leaders and citizens, and between the Otafiire family and the people of Mitooma. Videos from the event have since gone viral, with netizens celebrating the General’s lighter, more relatable side.

“This is the kind of leadership our people connect with,” said a local leader. “Not just policies, but presence.”

In a particularly symbolic moment, the women of Mitooma honoured Gen. Otafiire with a traditional crown, spear, and shield, a cultural symbol of appreciation, respect, and community trust. The gesture reflected their admiration and recognition of his long service to the region, affectionately calling him “Empologoma ya Mitooma” (The Lion of Mitooma).

Local leaders emphasized that the honour was not political in nature, but rather a cultural expression of the community’s gratitude and pride in their “son of the soil,” who has served faithfully under President Museveni’s leadership.

And whether it was the music, the message, or the magnetism of a well-synced couple, one thing was clear: Mitooma witnessed not just a political rally but a celebration of leadership with heart.
