This Friday evening, operatives from State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) stormed Mpigi district headquarters and arrested district LC5 Chairman Martin Ssejjemba accusing him of corruption and improper conduct.
It’s in relation to Shs1.6bn worth of public funds whose theft and misappropriation Ssejjemba is alleged to have participated in along with others still at large. He at first was locked up at Entebbe Police from where he was relocated to Kampala CPS.
He has since defended himself calling his arrest mere political fabrications aimed at demonizing him and spoiling his name in order to weaken his NUP party in Mpigi, a district Gen YK Museveni’s NRM party is determined to recapture come 2026.
In a related development, the same SHACU has also apprehended a one Fred Kirumira who chairs the District Service Commission which is charged with recruiting staff and employees/workers for the district.
The DSC Secretary Sarah Nakamoga has also equally been harvested in what demonstrates SHACU’s determination to weed corruption out of Mpigi district’s social services trajectory. They are all anticipated to be arraigned in Court come next week as it clearly was the state’s intention to have them spend the weekend behind bars.
Having been effectively frustrated by the ruling and cash-dispensing NRM as LC5 Chairman, Ssejjemba has been eyeing becoming Mawokota South MP come 2026 and his soiling potentially benefits the incumbent area MP Yusuf Nsibambi of FDC and NRM’s Susan Nakawuki.
