Aspiring National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Region Vice Chairperson, Jossy Nuwabiine, has congratulated party delegates on their successful grassroots elections while urging unity, integrity, and truthfulness as the party prepares for the next phase of internal leadership contests.
In a statement addressed to NRM delegates across the country, Nuwabiine extended heartfelt congratulations to those who emerged victorious in recent elections, which helped establish party structures from the village level up to district leadership, offering words of encouragement to those whose elections were suspended or are still ongoing.
“Elections are not an end in themselves,” Nuwabiine emphasized. “If the people have entrusted you with their mandate, do not squander their goodwill. Serve them truthfully. Tell them what you can realistically achieve, not empty promises.”
Cautioning against political dishonesty, Nuwabiine invoked the words of a former U.S. president: “I would rather lose in a cause that I know will one day win, than win in a cause that I know will one day lose.”
He called on fellow NRM leaders to avoid divisive and sectarian politics, warning that such practices threaten national unity.
Drawing from historical examples, he reminded delegates that leadership is defined by ability and character, not tribe, religion, gender, or physical ability.
Nuwabiine strongly condemned electoral malpractice, especially commercialized politics, which he said breeds corruption and undermines merit. He praised delegates in the Greater Bushenyi region who rejected vote-buying efforts, commending them for upholding the party’s core values.
“Our politics must be rooted in truth, merit, and service, not money. We must reject the culture of impunity, bribery, and character assassination,” he stated.
Looking ahead, the aspiring chairperson noted the upcoming elections for Members of Parliament, interest groups, district and sub-county leaders, as well as the Delegates’ Conference where the NRM presidential flag bearer and Central Executive Committee (CEC) members will be chosen.
In this regard, he formally declared his candidacy for the position of National Vice Chairperson for the Central Region, citing his strong ideological grounding, regional ties to Lyantonde and Ssembabule, and unwavering commitment to the party’s transformation agenda.
“As a fully commissioned cadre, I am offering a candidature anchored on the NRM ideology, principles, and party spirit, so, expect nothing less than the best,” he pledged.
Nuwabiine reaffirmed his loyalty to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who’s also the party chairman, and the broader vision of East African integration, vowing to help steer both party and country toward greater social and economic development.
