In a show of solidarity and community spirit the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has contributed UGX 10 million towards the 12th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run, which is set to take place this Sunday, April 6, 2025.
The generous donation was handed over yesterday afternoon to the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, by Victoria Nabitaka Makumbi, the Executive Assistant to the Commissioner General, who represented the URA Commissioner General.
Victoria was accompanied by a team of senior URA management staff including the Acting Assistant Commissioner for Public and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Robert Kalumba, the Manager Public Relations and Communications, Mr. Raymond Muzira, as well as stakeholder relations officers Ms. Ritah Luyima and Ms. Josephine Kabyanga.
The 2025 Kabaka Birthday Run is running under the powerful theme: “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child and the Fight to End HIV/AIDS by 2030.”
The Katikkiro used the occasion to call upon Ugandans to take ownership of the HIV/AIDS fight, especially at a time when international funding is reducing.
“We need collective effort to banish AIDS completely from Uganda. The reduction in external support means we must step up as a nation. I urge our youth to embrace preventive measures such as condom use, circumcision, regular testing, and responsible behavior. Men, in particular, must lead by example. Be the shield that protects our families and communities,” he Urged.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Nabitaka reaffirmed URA’s dedication to promoting public health as a foundation for national growth.
“At URA, we believe a healthy nation is key to economic prosperity. Our support to the Kabaka Birthday Run goes beyond finances. It is a commitment to stand with Ugandans in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” she said.
“This cause fits within our wider mission of building a better Uganda through partnerships that support sustainable development,” she added.
The Acting URA Spokesperson, Mr. Robert Kalumba, noted that being part of such initiatives allows the Authority to connect directly with the communities it serves.
“URA staff are ready to take part in Sunday’s run, with many registered for the 5km, 10km, and 21km races,” he revealed. As the Kabaka celebrates his 70th birthday, URA joins hands with the Kingdom of Buganda and all Ugandans to push for a healthier, AIDS-free Buganda, and Uganda at large.
