Mpuuga: Bobi Wine Profited from Ssegirinya’s Imprisonment, Hospital Time & His Death Too

By Mulengera Reporters

Parliament Commissioner Mathias Mpuuga ordinarily ought to be taken seriously each time he talks matters NUP because he is a serious man and was Bobi Wine’s Deputy President in the party for almost five years since NUP’s founding. Bobi demonstrated more belief in him when he made him LoP, a position he held for more than 2 years.

On Wednesday, Mpuuga addressed reporters at Parliament and vigorously responded to what he called character-assassination by Bobi Wine who on Tuesday asserted that he/Mpuuga had connived to have MPs Allan Ssewanyana and Mohammed Ssegirinya incarcerated and kept in prison for more than 2 years. Even when Ssewanyana was present and Bobi Wine called him to come to the microphone and corroborate his claims, Mpuuga says nothing could be further from the truth.

At the news conference, Mpuuga illustrated how Bobi Wine and his close adherents at Kavule (he called them Cabal members) financially benefited and profited from the plight of Ssegirinya, a gentleman he claimed Kyagulanyi persecuted in order to reap political capital. Mpuuga claimed that top NUP leaders desired to have Ssegirinya dead so that they occupy his position as Kawempe North MP.

A tough-talking Mpuuga put his gloves off and harangued Kyagulanyi like never before. He said some NUP bosses made money in allowances while claiming to be travelling abroad to check on Ssegirinya in the hospital. That they got facilitated for Ssegirinya-related trips which they never made. Mpuuga said Kyagulanyi personally made political capital from Ssegirinya’s plight by taking photos with him both in prison and hospital which he says he used to showcase his political greatness. That all this was unprecedented in opposition politics.

The Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator said that besides making lots of money and reaping political capital from Ssegirinya’s jail and hospital time, the NUP leaders, Kyagulanyi inclusive, went as far as humiliating Ssegirinya even in death. He said he was sorry and would like to apologize to Ssegirinya’s children, wives and mother for the humiliation and ridicule their loved one endured at the hands of NUP leaders and foot soldiers both in life and death. He dismissed Kyagulanyi as a very dishonest person who should be treated with the contempt he deserves.

He demanded to know why the NUP President would know the circumstances leading to Ssegirinya’s arrest and how the entire conspiracy was plotted and yet kept quiet for all this time. He demanded that Kyagulanyi, out of duty, prioritizes briefing the family and the whole country about who played which role in framing up the two legislators since he seemed to know a lot more during the Tuesday media event at NUP offices.

Kyagulanyi said that Ssegirinya repeatedly made it clear to him that his then Deputy President Mpuuga knew a lot about the entire plot, which Mpuuga now wants Kyagulanyi to tell the country in details besides aiding Police investigations. He wants relatives and families, which lost loved ones to Bijambiya squads in Masaka, to rise up and demand for answers from Kyagulanyi since he seems to know a lot about what happened and who exactly macheted their people.
