Former St. Balikuddembe (Owino) Market Chairperson and Kampala Central MP aspirant Susan Kushaba has come out strongly against what she described as “opposition infiltration” within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
In an exclusive interview with Mulengera News on Wednesday, April 30, Kushaba claimed that many of the individuals currently fighting for influence within the NRM are, in fact, opposition sympathizers pretending to be party loyalists.
Her remarks came in response to questions about ongoing internal wrangles within the NRM, including the dramatic incident in Sembabule where Hon. Theodore Ssekikubo was recently dragged by security personnel in front of President Yoweri Museveni.
Ssekikubo later accused his opponent, Brig. Rwashande, of orchestrating the incident with the backing of fellow NRM MPs.
“These are games being played by people who do not wish the NRM well. They pretend to be NRM, but they are not. They are the very people weakening the party from within,” the fearless lady remarked.
The former vender further alleged that even the recently updated NRM voters register is littered with opposition members whose mission is to sabotage party activities and tarnish its image from the inside.
“These people have done more harm than good, and what is most painful is that they wear the party’s colors. That is why the NRM keeps losing in Kampala and central Uganda. During the primaries, opposition disguised as NRM front weak candidates who are easy to defeat during general elections. It’s all part of the plan to make it appear as though the NRM has no support in the city.”
On the controversial issue of abductions of opposition figures, Kushaba dismissed recent claims, including the latest involving Edward Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe, a bodyguard to National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
According to her, such reports are “political stunts” staged by the opposition to win public sympathy.
“The way the NUP operates with cameras everywhere, they would have at least one second of footage to prove the abduction if it really happened. This is not the first time. Even Kyagulanyi’s elder brother once disappeared, only to reappear later claiming to have been abducted and tortured. These are rehearsed stunts,” she added.
Kushaba, who is seeking to represent Kampala Central under the NRM ticket, has positioned herself as a tough-talking, no-nonsense mobilizer, ready to confront both opposition forces and internal saboteurs within the ruling party.
Her comments are likely to spark more debate within NRM circles as the party gears up for what are expected to be hotly contested primaries ahead of the 2026 general elections.
