A farmer does not plant many seeds randomly and expect a great harvest. He selects the best seeds and plants them carefully, knowing that some must be given priority to ensure a good yield.
This was the message of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to the leaders of the Kigezi sub-region as he urged them to focus on wealth creation during his ongoing country tour to assess the impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
On Jan 13, 2024, Museveni, accompanied by the First Lady, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, who’s also the minister of education, made a stop in Rukungiri, where he met with local leaders from across Kigezi.
The president emphasized that while many development needs exist, leaders must put wealth creation at the forefront.
Drawing from the Bible, he reminded them of the scripture, that “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” He likened this to governance, saying that when economic empowerment is prioritized, other aspects of development naturally follow.
During the meeting, the President also addressed concerns about divisions in Kigezi based on religion, calling for immediate unity. “We cannot afford to be divided by religion. Uganda’s strength has always been in its unity, and Kigezi must uphold this principle.”
Museveni’s tour continues on today with a major rally in Rukiga District, where he is expected to further engage with the people on the benefits of the PDM and other government programs aimed at improving livelihoods.
