At the insistence of PSST Ramathan Goobi, President Museveni recently ordered Local Government Minister Raphael Magezi to shelve all the plans he had been having to create and operationalise new administrative units and moreso Parliamentary Constituencies.
Goobi’s reasoning, which the President has bought into, is that such administrative units only strain the already over stretched treasury yet they don’t result into any economic productivity.
That’s why the original plans to split constituencies like Kira Municipality, Kampala Central and operationalisation of new cities, which would have resulted into new MP areas being created, has all been halted.
This bad news simply means that leaders like Semujju Nganda will have to struggle more in order to keep their seats than would have been the case if a split had happened.
