Dr. Kizza Besigye diehard supporter and mentee Mike Kabaziguruka says he has been having deep thought while carrying out consultations with fellow Nakawa East residents and he has finally decided to stand for the area MP Seat come 2026.
Kabaziguruka, who subscribes to the Katonga Road-based PFF, is the man who moved the Supreme Court to put a permanent stop on civilians being tried in Gen Museveni’s military courts.
The Friday ruling has since got Gen Museveni to respond in a brief social media while trying to contradict what the 7 Justices unanimously proclaimed while making it clear that such courts fall short of the independence, impartialty and competence test that is mandatorily required in the Constitution under Articles 28(1) and 44(c).
Basking in the euphoria that landmark ruling ignited among millions of Ugandans on social media for much of Friday, Mike Kabaziguruka on that same Friday evening declared he was running for the Seat which he held from 2016 until 2021 when he lost it to Kyagulanyi-backed Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo.
That same year 2021, what existed as one Nakawa under Kabaziguruka was split into Nakawa East and West which currently is represented by Joel Ssenyonyi.
Balimwezo, a former Nakawa LC3 Chairman, isn’t seeking reelection in 2026. He is vying for Lord Mayorship against Erias Lukwago, a close ally of Mike Kabaziguruka. Instead, Balimwezo has started moving around introducing his Kyagulanyi-annointed successor Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro to people at public functions like funerals, wedding and graduation ceremonies.
Mufumbiro, who Abed Bwanika has vowed to fight, has since acquired an apartment in the Kitintale neighborhood in order to have an operational base while increasing his electability. He has all along been living in the Rubaga Division neighborhood of Namungoona which he is abandoning to relocate to Nakawa East.
