2021 UPDATES: MASAKA MP MPUUGA UNDER SIEGE AGAIN; WILL HE SURVIVE?

By Our Reporters
Masaka Municipality MP the eloquent Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba is once again under siege. Mpuuga, who in 2016 fiercely faced Herman Sentongo at a time he had just fallen out with diehard Besigyeists who had been his allies in W2W, this time round faces formidable opponents in DP Vice President the flamboyant Fred Mukasa Mbidde (now of EALA) and Masaka Mayor Kayemba Afaayo of the FDC party. According to Sadab Kitata, one of the most insightful journalists Greater Masaka ever produced, Mbidde badly wants the position and on Saturday met area leading scribes and confided in them his political plans to upstage Mpuuga, a fellow democrat with whom he only reconciled sometime back. Since his University days, Mbidde is renowned for being shrewdly very ambitious something the formidable Mpuuga must be very worried about. It will always be either Mbidde or nobody else.

Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba

Bukoto East MP Florence Namayanja, who in 2015/16 unsuccessfully competed with him for the position of DP chairperson for Masaka district, certainly has good experiences to share for Mpuuga’s benefit. Gratefully by 2021, each of the three opposition giants eyeing Masaka MP Seat will have served for 10 years in the respective positions where they are currently serving. Kayemba has been Mayor since 2011: the very year when Mpuuga first became Masaka MP & Mbidde first became EALA MP. Prior to the EALA slot, Mbidde had stood for Makindye West MP Seat in 2006 which he lost to JEEMA’s Hussein Kyanjo before relocating to Kalungu East in 2011 which he lost to NRM’s Vincent Sempijja. He had earlier on lost to Lule Mawiya during the 2008 by election in which Kayemba also stood before relocating to Masaka Municipality. Incidentally, Kayemba previously belonged to DP/UYD before joining FDC after being inspired by the rhetoric of Col Kizza Besigye who was then very revolutionary. Mbidde’s entry, its widely feared, is going to reignite the old conflicts and intrigue that has always kept DP diehards torn into antagonistic camps. It started in 2011 as Mpuuga then of Ssuubi Group took on old man JB Kawanga (also Justice Remy Kasule’s business partner) who had represented the Municipality since 1980. Mulengera news website understands that the supporters of both Mpuuga & Mbidde are counting on new political sensation Bobi Wine on conviction that whoever he backs will carry the day in Masaka Municipality come 2021.
