The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has warned the public against a fraudulent scheme in which individuals are offering fake internship placements at the Commission in exchange for money.
In a public notice issued on May 30, 2025, UCC revealed that it had received reports of scammers circulating forged documents purporting to secure internships on behalf of unsuspecting applicants.
According to them, these individuals are not affiliated with UCC and are taking advantage of young Ugandans in search of career opportunities.
UCC emphasized that its Internship Program is not for sale, and all placements are offered strictly through official procedures, and no payments are required at any stage of the application process.
The warning comes amid growing concern over the increasing number of job and internship-related scams targeting students and fresh graduates.
Fraudsters are reportedly posing as insiders or agents claiming to have access to internship opportunities in government institutions and regulatory bodies.
The commission has advised all applicants to exercise caution and avoid dealing with unverified individuals or agents claiming to offer placements at the Commission. Instead, the public is encouraged to seek information directly from UCC through its official communication channels.
For verification or inquiries, UCC has provided a toll-free helpline, 0800 222 777. Members of the public are urged to use this line whenever they are in doubt or suspect fraudulent activity.
As the scramble for limited internship slots intensifies across the country, students and job seekers are advised to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious offers to the relevant authorities. UCC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding transparency and protecting the integrity of its programs from abuse.
