In what proved the fact that Bobi Wine considers Kabaka’s officials at Mengo, which is the seat of Buganda Kingdom, to be his enemies hostile to his becoming President, the NUP Presidential Candidate donated a Shs50,000 note to Nakaseke South MP Lutamaguzi Semakula for calling out the Katikkiro.
At the last week NUP candidate rally in Nakaseke, Lutamaguzi made a fiery speech in which he vowed to lead violent protests to force out Gen YK Museveni should he rig out Bobi Wine in 2026.
In the same speech, Lutamaguzi claimed that Kabaka’s officials at Mengo, led by the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, passionately hate Bobi Wine because they dislike him for threatening President’s Museveni seat of power. Without adducing much evidence, Lutamaguzi told the massive rally at Nakaseke that Museveni has been pouring billions of shillings into Mengo and that it’s what the Kingdom bureaucracy thrives on.
“But let me also ask you old men at Mengo. Why do you hate Bobi Wine yet he is the only son of Buganda [mwana wa Buganda] with the realistic chance to become the President of Uganda?” Lutamaguzi’s question caused the crowd to go ecstatic and prompted Bobi Wine to rise from his seat and hand over to him a Shs50,000 note to register appreciation for his boldness.
Ironically, Lutamaguzi began his politics more than 15 years ago as a blue-eyed boy at Mengo whose media platforms like CBS he had unlimited access to. He formerly belonged to Nkoba Za Mbogo, which unites Baganda youths at Makerere and other tertiary institutions of Uganda. He gradually fell out and even stopped being hosted on BBS Terefayina’s weekly political program after his current political boss Bobi Wine started publicly quarreling with his former Deputy Mathias Mpuuga over the Shs500m handshake he was given by the leadership at Parliament.
Lutamaguzi has since gone onto a belligerent path with all opposition politicians who are seen as being friendly to or respectful of Mengo and more so Katikkiro Mayiga. These include Medard Segona, Joyce Bagala and Mathias Mpuuga etc.
Such a belligerent relationship with Mengo has only deepened his relationship with Kyagulanyi who many consider to be a secretive hater of the Mengo institution of Kabakaship. Lutamaguzi has equally been very belligerent and hostile towards the Catholic Church religious leaders in Buganda who he believes ought to come out and embrace Mr. Wine more overtly simply because he is currently the politically most powerful Catholic in the country.
