Through his Private Secretary Sarah, Bobi Wine on Wednesday ordered NUP Women League Head Flavia Kalule Nabagabe to find a way of communicating to all females carrying the NUP flag not to expect any financial support going into the campaign.
He made it clear that NUP is broke and won’t be able to pay nomination fees or even print campaign posters for anyone. “He doesn’t want them to hear it in rumours. That’s why he wants you to officially inform them since they are your members. Let them get their own money as opposed to waiting for the party to send them nomination fees or even campaign posters,” sources quoted PS Sarah as informing Flavia Kalule as soon as she arrived at Kavule on Tuesday.
Kalule did as instructed and waited for female NUP flag bearers and gave them the message as they came around Kavule to pick their recommendation letters from Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya’s office, introducing them to EC as those who have been mandated to carry party flag.
In contrast, parties like DP and FDC are funding all their flag bearers with nomination fees and campaign posters.
In the FDC case, moneybags Nandala Mafabi is contributing Shs300m for every incumbent MP who shuns Katonga and agrees to seek re-election on the FDC ticket.
That actually is how many incumbent FDC MPs who had originally flocked with Katonga because of their love for Dr. Kizza Besigye, were lured back to Najjanankumbi. They simply couldn’t afford walking away from such free money.
