The Electoral Commission has made a bold statement on Thursday, unveiling a fleet of brand-new vehicles, including powerful Toyota Land Cruisers and double-cabin pickups, just months ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The freshly imported vehicles have already started arriving at the Commission’s headquarters in Kampala, sending ripples through the political scene.
While rumors swirled about pampered presidential hopefuls getting luxury rides, the EC was quick to put on the brakes.
“These vehicles are not for the candidates themselves,” said EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi. “The pickups are strictly for the security teams assigned to each nominee. The Land Cruisers? They’ll be used by our senior officials overseeing the elections.”

The final lap comes between January 12 and February 9, 2026, when Ugandans cast their votes in what many predict will be a no-holds-barred fight for the presidency.
