URA Launches Twin Auctions to Dispose Seized Goods & Cars in Major Revenue Push

By Aggrey Baba

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has today, Friday April 25, announced two major private treaty sales aimed at disposing of assorted goods and motor vehicles currently held in customs warehouses.

The move is intended to decongest storage facilities and support domestic revenue mobilization through transparent auction systems.

The first of the two auctions is an online private treaty, which officially kicks off today with public viewing of the items, and  bidding will open on Monday April 28. According to the tax collectors, this auction includes a range of general merchandise, motor vehicles, and items marked for downgrading into animal feeds.

The entire process has been automated to enhance efficiency, and those interested can access all relevant documents, like terms and conditions, the user guide, and the full list of items, via the URA portal.

URA has urges that all items will be sold strictly on an “as is” basis, with no warranties or after-sale claims.

In a related development, URA has also announced a second auction that will be conducted manually in June, which will feature both goods and vehicles, including previously unsold units from earlier online auctions in Mombasa.

Viewing of items will begin on Thursday June 12, and bidding will take place on Tuesday June 17.

URA has released indicative storage charges for motor vehicles originating from Mombasa, with payments required in Kenyan Shillings at current exchange rates. The charges vary depending on vehicle type and size, and successful bidders will be expected to pay additional registration fees as per Uganda’s standard rates.

The tax-collecting-body has urged the public to strictly follow the auction guidelines and warned that the sales will be conducted under strict terms, without exceptions.

All sales will also follow the standard “as is” condition, and bidders are encouraged to inspect goods thoroughly before placing offers. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
