The URA, in collaboration with the Mityana Business Community, has taken a bold step in empowering women entrepreneurs by enhancing their understanding of taxes and compliance.
The tax education workshop, held on March 11, 2025, at Kolping Hotel, Mityana, attracted over 50 female entrepreneurs eager to learn how tax compliance can fuel business expansion and increase profitability.
Hassan Wasajja, the URA head in Mityana, emphasized the importance of tax planning and accurate bookkeeping, urging the women to formalize their businesses for greater financial opportunities. He pointed out that registered businesses gain access to bank loans, government tenders, and other benefits that informal businesses miss out on.
His message was reinforced by Ivan Kiryawala, a Domestic Taxes Officer, who warned against tax evasion and false declarations. He encouraged businesswomen to seek assistance at URA offices if they felt unfairly taxed, assuring them of transparency in the tax system.
The session was well-received by the attendees, with Nakafero Sauda, chairperson of the Mityana Business Women Association, commending URA for creating a platform where women could openly discuss business challenges and tax-related concerns. She urged URA and the government to share success stories of women entrepreneurs to inspire others and improve local business practices.
Mercy Okori from URA’s Tax Education Office reaffirmed URA’s commitment to supporting female entrepreneurs as their role in Uganda’s economy continues to expand. She revealed that similar workshops are planned for Masindi and Hoima, furthering URA’s mission to develop a tax-compliant business community across Uganda.
As Uganda’s economy grows, URA remains committed to ensuring that every business, whether big or small, thrives in a tax-compliant environment.
