In a renewed commitment to fostering tax education, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has reaffirmed its partnership with Buganda Broadcasting Services (BBS TV) to enhance public awareness of taxpayer rights and obligations.
This collaboration underscores the crucial role of the media in shaping a tax-compliant society through informed civic engagement.
During a high-level meeting with the BBS leadership, led by Managing Director Patrick Ssembajjo, URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi lauded the station for its unwavering dedication to journalistic excellence and its active participation in tax awareness initiatives.
Musinguzi emphasized the media’s responsibility not just to inform, but also to empower citizens with knowledge that promotes voluntary tax compliance.
“The media’s primary role is to inform and educate. By raising awareness of tax obligations, media platforms like BBS empower Ugandans to take ownership of their civic responsibilities,” he stated.
He further commended BBS for its pivotal role in supporting URA’s tax education campaigns, particularly in disseminating information about key programs such as the tax waiver initiative, the Digital Tax Stamp campaign, and Stamp Duty regulations over the past year. Through these efforts, thousands of Ugandans have gained clarity on their tax responsibilities, fostering a culture of compliance.
The Commissioner General called for an even stronger, more strategic partnership to extend tax awareness efforts nationwide. He stressed the need for tailored messaging that resonates with diverse audiences, ensuring that more Ugandans understand and appreciate their tax rights and obligations.
This renewed collaboration between URA and BBS TV signals a progressive step toward building a well-informed taxpayer community, ultimately contributing to national development and economic growth.
