Like a river that never forgets its course, the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) continues to chart the path of excellence, shaping professionals destined for leadership.

On this auspicious occasion of the 22nd graduation ceremony at the institute’s main campus in Kampala, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, graced the event as the chief guest.

The ceremony commenced with a prayer led by the Head of the Business Planning Department, setting a solemn yet celebratory tone for the day. Addressing the congregation, Dr. James Nkata, the Director General of UMI, expressed gratitude to the Parliament of Uganda for its unwavering support to the institution.

He acknowledged that the success of the graduates was not solely a result of their hard work but was also made possible by the contributions of their parents, colleagues, and the institute itself.

Dr. Nkata emphasized UMI’s commitment to preparing graduates to serve with humanity, a principle that remains at the heart of the institution’s mission. Reflecting on the milestones achieved since the last graduation, he revealed that UMI had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education to enhance teaching and learning.

Additionally, the institute is on the verge of finalizing an MoU with Makerere University’s Institute of Labor and Social Development, under the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development.

In a significant academic development, Dr. Nkata announced the reinstatement of the PhD in Business Administration, a move that aligns with UMI’s vision of advancing research and leadership training.

However, he did not shy away from highlighting the challenges facing the institution, particularly the issue of inadequate staffing due to limited funding. UMI requires UGX 1.7 billion to recruit sufficient staff to meet its academic and administrative demands.

Despite these hurdles, Dr. Nkata expressed confidence in the graduates, reminding them that a UMI alumnus is always destined to lead from the front. He urged them to step into the world with pride, armed with the knowledge and skills acquired, and make a lasting impact in their respective fields.

As the ceremony unfolds, the air is filled with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the future, reinforcing UMI’s role as a beacon of excellence in management and leadership training. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
