When the winds of change blow, it is the wise who build windmills, not walls, and Uganda brings this to reality, by choosing to ride the winds of digital transformation.
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has officially joined WorldDAB, becoming the latest national regulatory body to embrace DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus) technology, a bold step which places Uganda on the global map of countries leading the transition from traditional to digital radio broadcasting.
In a statement released this on Tuesday, UCC expressed pride in joining the WorldDAB community, which includes some of the world’s most advanced regulators such as Ofcom (UK), ACMA (Australia), and BNetzA (Germany).
“We are proud to join the global DAB+ community as we work to advance digital radio broadcasting in Uganda,” UCC stated. “This milestone aligns with our commitment to spectrum efficiency and greater access to quality broadcasting services.”
DAB+ is the latest global standard in digital radio, offering superior audio quality, more stations, and better spectrum efficiency compared to traditional FM radio.
Its adoption in Uganda is expected to bring a richer listening experience and more innovative broadcasting services to millions of Ugandans.
“This is a transformative step that reflects our commitment to a modern, inclusive, and cutting-edge communications sector,” UCC noted. “It’s not just about clearer sound, but also unlocking new opportunities for broadcasters, content creators, and listeners across the country.”
By joining WorldDAB, Uganda becomes part of a growing global network of countries investing in digital radio infrastructure and innovation. UCC’s move to embrace digital broadcasting reflects a forward-looking vision sharpened by insight, strategy, and a desire for progress.
The Commission thanked WorldDAB for welcoming Uganda into its fold and reaffirmed its dedication to working with both local and international partners to grow the digital radio ecosystem. The future of radio in Uganda is here, clearer, stronger, and more dynamic than ever before.
